The  "Pit Fires" were used for training purposes by the Atlas Fire Co. They were started by past Fire Chief Mike Garcia in the early 70's  and lasted until the late 80's . The classes were  informative and  HOT. Many surrounding volunteer companys would attend this day long event and expierence the thrill. Current regulations prohibit such practices anylonger, but the memory still lives on....
